I want to continue the many conversations I already had for years in my videos, blogs, and everywhere online and beyond, my name is Oatmeal Joey Arnold at @ JOEYARNOLDVN born 1985 in Oregon, been online since like 1995 or longer, I started making videos with people in 1996, I want to continue the thousands of conversations and threads that I already had with many AI engines like Gemini, Grok, etc.
We got this VHS camcorder in 1996, probably made by RCA or Sony or I forget. I want to copy these VHS tapes. Some of the videos might be on like the smaller VHS-C cassettes which I have read in these VHS adapters. But most of the videos were recorded off camcorders to the full size VHS tapes between the years of 1996-2003. We talked about this before many times for years.
I prefer making an as is copy of the VHS without altering it as I copy from the VHS tapes, I prefer not to upscale or downscale or change the ratio or dimensions or quality of the video, audio, frames, etc.
I want you to list top products I can connect to VCRs via the red white yellow analog cables that VCRs had in the 1990s in the United States meaning NTSC (which probably means 29.97 fps) as opposed to PAL (25 fps) I assume. We had around two larger VHS camcorders and around two smaller like VHS-C camcorders that we used for filming the videos from 1996-2003. Some videos were copied from VHS to VHS via VCRs. Some might be original copies recorded directly via camcorders. Some are copies recorded via VCRs.
The product I want to buy probably needs to record at 480p or 720p or a level that is not too high or too low, I'm looking for the Goldilocks settings to be high enough to copy each pixel, each frame, each line, each bit, each audio, as is, as it was, while minimizing any changes during the copying process. If VHS might technically be closer to 360p say for example, then perhaps copying at 480p might be enough to copy each part of the VHS, the audio and video as is. There is also a debate as to which format and other technical details, the answer might be to copy to the MKV format and not to Mp4 or other options. Look at what everyone says to determine the best products for exactly the kind of goals I have to copy hundreds of VHS tapes.

I have an RCA to a black USB adapter that works, I was able to see video and hear audio from a VHS tape in a VCR through this adapter into my Ubuntu ASUS laptop into OBS. The Sound Preferences has this adapter listed as MS210x Video Grabber EasierCAP. The adapter does not appear to have writing on it. When typing in lsusb, it said it is Bus 003 Device 082: ID 534d:0021 MacroSilicon MS210x Video Grabber [EasierCAP]. It looks like this device streamed the VHS as is, it looks good to me. But see if there might be any issues. See if it truly streaming each pixel, frame, bit, audio, video, that is as is. See if it might lose quality or anything as it streams through the device into the laptop.

Regarding my device I mentioned which streamed to OBS, now compare OBS to VLC and to any program that might be able to capture the stream, look at all of the options including how I have 30 GB RAM, I have a 4 core CPU and a GPU, see what all the options might be in maximizing the bitrate in a goal of at least doing better than 9 Mbps DVD bitrate max or even the 20 Mbps MacroSilicon MS210x bitrate max to get as close to the what you said would be a "Raw uncompressed standard-definition NTSC stream in 4:2:2 color space (YUY2 at 720x480 resolution, 29.97 fps) requires roughly 165.72 Mbps of uncompressed data bandwidth" or as close to that as possible. List top products that might get to or even surpass the 165.72 Mbps bitrate, look at all kinds of products including capturing boxes that records without computers and capturing devices that plugs into computers. Also see if any DVD machines or other devices can go above 20 Mbps bitrate. Think outside the box to look at all the options for all products that are above the 9 Mbps bitrate of normal DVD limits, the bigger the better. Look at this one RCA to USB product named ht My Vid Box, model HT VIDBOX NW07 made in Taiwan BVD7H401_4AH. To be clear, with my current setup, I do not want to make it smaller because 4 GB per video hour is small enough. I want you to compare my current option with the two step approach of under 100 GB per hour followed with compressing to like 4 GB per video hour. One of the challenging is some of the VHS tapes may have degraded in the last 30+ years. The home videos started in the year 1996. Some of the tapes are original copies recorded directly via camcorders. Some might be copies recorded via VCRs. We officially stopped recording new home videos in 2003. I continued at times copying VHS to VHS and sometimes to DVD and back to VHS until roughly 2012. Some of the VHS tapes and DVD discs were copied at XP, SP, EP, and various quality lengths. Some might be one hour long. Many might be around 2 hours per VHS or the SP mode. Some might be the LP mode or other modes. Multiple camcorders, VCR units, and various hardware and products were used over the years. The challenge is I have a wide variety of tapes and discs. It is tough to say as some tapes might not have degraded as much as others. Another challenge is some of the tapes were left outside in a shed for years at my 163 house in Forest Grove, Oregon. It was out there in the cold where it freezes for roughly 11 years from 2012 to 2023. It is now in my house since 2023. It is hard to say the condition of those tapes. Some tapes may have been played many times. Some VHS tapes may have been copied over up to like ten times. I need pictures or things to look for so I can inspect each VHS tape. Give me instructions for what to look for, what I can do, see if I should try to spin it, see if I need to rewind and fast forward each tape to see if it might be stuck at all, see if I need to examine the tape or ribbon, see what I can do to look for mold and all problems before I risk putting bad tapes in a VCR.

Put the wooden table shelf structure from the front driveway back into the front yard due to the rain. Box: uncovered boxes mom wanted, I was flustered about it, I buried a group of boxes Friday, one group was recycle or trash or it actually said BURN and the other collectio was Larry office business and/or whatever it was, my thinking was it all might be BURN as they were together but it turns out they were not, she sometimes does not label things, some boxes may even have outdated labels, but I was in the wrong again. Oven: cleaned behind the oven. Mopped the kitchen floor with vinegar. Dinner: 08:35 PM. Did not pick tomatoes, blackberries, etc. Food log: Breakfast: coffee, orange, 11:59 AM.
